I Was A Little Afraid

After hearing Mike Tyson talking about being heavyweight champion of the world and still being scared when walking into the ring I have had a fascination with the power of fear in sport. If the toughest man in the world can walk into a room and be scared what chance is there for anyone?

In the film Mike talks about the fact that both the coward and the hero feel the same amount of fear but what he does with it makes the difference between a winner and a loser.

What reminded me about this was a video I recently watched where Maldini talks about not wanting to come off the bench in his first game for Milan because he “was a little afraid“.

Now if Maldini feels fear like this and Tyson feels like this, I’m guessing that the majority of players do too.
